4250
Gallon MC 312 Titanium Single Compartment Acid Trailer.
This 4400 Gallon
Titanium Tank Trailer was built by Titanium Fabrication Corporation
to carry reagent grade Nitric acid for the electronics market.
The Titanium tank replaced glass lined steel. The reasons for
replacement with Titanium were to maintain product purity and
provide economic savings due to higher capacity and lower weight
on return trips.
The tank design
was optimized for 12.0 pounds per gallon acid and has a nominal
4250 gallon capacity, 4400 skin full. The tank is 53 inches in
diameter and 492 inches T-T. The trailer was designed to the rules
of DOT MC-312. The tank, built principally of unalloyed Titanium
plate to SB 265, Grade 2 was built to the rules of Section 8 Division
1 of the ASME Pressure Vessel Code. Shell and nozzle welds were
fully radiographed and the tank was hydrostatically tested to
1½ times the maximum unloading pressure.

The tank,
piping and dip tubes, flanges, nozzle covers splash pan and other
components that might come in contact with the acid are Titanium.
The support rings, bolsters and roll-over protection which are
not welded to the tank are 304 stainless. Each ring is hydraulically
tensioned to the tank, then welded to make the full ring. Rings
over the running gear and fifth wheel have Titanium shear pads
welded to the shell to retain their position. Brackets for lights,
hoses and other hardware are Titanium and are welded to the shell.
The running gear, fifth wheel, landing gear, hose tubes, lights
and safety equipment are all conventional materials.
