The
principal advantage of this method of support is a reduction
in pressure drop compared to conventional plate baffles
for similar shellside heat exchange performance. This is
particularly significant in high pressure or high shellside
velocity applications where pressure drop has the most severe
effect. A second advantage is virtual elimination of potential
tube vibration problems where high shellside velocities
are encountered.
Titanium
was selected to provide corrosion resistance to the sea
water used for cooling, while providing excellent corrosion
resistance to H2S, chlorides, and amines on the shellside.
The
units utilize ¾" - .049" wall FineFin® tubes (supplied by
High Performance Tube Inc.) to enhance shellside heat transfer.
Tubesheets are 9 mm Titanium, SB 265 Grade 1 explosively
clad to carbon steel, with close tolerance holes and double
grooves. The tubes are seal welded to the tubesheets for
added reliability.
